Installing JewelSuite Geomechanics

Minimum system requirements

Before installing JewelSuite Geomechanics, please make sure that your computer meets the following minimum requirements:

  • CPU: Intel i7 (or higher) processor with 4 virtual processors at 2 GHz (or more), or AMD equivalent
  • Memory: Random Access Memory (RAM) 16 GB
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA® graphics card (like GTX 1060) or equivalent AMD graphics card. With OpenGL 4.3 support and with at least 4 GB of VRAM
  • Hard drive: 20 GB of free hard drive space (slow disk performance can have significant performance impact)
  • Microsoft® Windows 10 or Windows 11 64-bit (the application is only available in a 64-bit version)
  • The application is only available in a 64-bit version. Support for Windows™ 7 has been discontinued.
  • For receiving real-time WITSML™ data, a minimum connection speed of 15 kbits/sec
  • Display resolution: 1920x1080
  • Network card: 100 Mbit/s

Recommended system requirements

To avoid that various operations become slow, the following system requirements are recommended in addition to the above minimum system requirements:

  • CPU: Intel i7 (or higher) with at least 12 virtual processors at 3 GHz (or more), or AMD equivalent
  • Memory: 32 GB Random Access Memory (RAM)
  • Hard drive: SSD NVMe hard disk with 100 GB (or more) free space (throughput 1500MB/s, 10k IOPS and 100us latency or better)
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA® or AMD with OpenGL 4.3 support and with 4 GB of RAM
  • Two PC Monitors with display resolution of at least 1920x1080 or a laptop with wide screen display
  • Network card: 1 Gbit/s, throughput 150 MB/s and latency 10 ms (or better)

Prerequisites which are installed automatically during the application installation:

  • Microsoft .NET Core Runtime - 8.0 (x64)
  • Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime - 8.0 (x64)
  • Microsoft ASP.NET Core Runtime - 8.0 (x64)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2
  • Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable (x64)

The system requirements above are suitable for most of the basic operations performed on models of average size and complexity. Depending on the particular task and on the complexity of the models, the system configuration may need upgrades to ensure optimal performance.

Monitor settings

Work can be performed with both single monitor and multi-monitor setups. Since the 3D View is used most of the time for displaying all available reservoir data, a dual monitor setup is recommended in order to provide the best / largest 3D view possible. This will make the viewable area much wider, allowing better views side by side.

Graphics card requirements

The application requires the graphics card to support OpenGL Version 4.3 or higher. Recommended are graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD. Higher-end Intel UHD Graphics cards are also compatible, though some artifacts can occur. When multiple graphics cards are installed, make sure the graphics card with the best specification is assigned to the application. For Nvidia you can do this via ‘Manage 3D settings > Program Settings’ in the Nvidia Control Panel, for AMD you can do this via ‘System > Switchable Graphics’ in the AMD Radeon Settings.

If you need to run the application without a graphics card (typical for virtual machines), you need to add a DLL called ‘opengl32.dll’ alongside the executable and set certain environment variables to avoid severe performance issues and display artifacts. Working with a virtual machine is only advised for automated tests for the software, and not to be used by end users. Please contact SoftwareSupport@bakerhughes.com for details.
